Unfortunately, we won't be treated to another howler of a performance by Werner Herzog in the sequel to Jack Reacher. Instead, Tom Cruise will do battle with a guy who definitely isn't a German filmmaker, but is probably a much better actor. According to Variety, the role of villain has gone to Patrick Heusinger, who had a breakout role in Girlfriend's Guide to Divorce on Bravo.
Directed by Ed Zwick who also co-wrote the screenplay, the film will be based on Lee Child's 18th Jack Reacher book, Never Go Back. In that story, Reacher heads to a Virginia military headquarters only to find that his old friend, the base's commanding officer, has been arrested. Presumably he'll beat up a bunch of people to get her released.
Also starring Cobie Smulders, Aldis Hodge, and Danika Yarosh, Jack Reacher 2 opens October 1st 2016.
