Eve Hewson Joins 'Robin Hood: Origins', Austin Stowell gets 'Colossal' with Anne Hathaway

A pair of young stars who can be seen this weekend in Steven Spielberg's Bridge of Spies have signed on for a pair of potential blockbusters.

Now that Lionsgate's Robin Hood: Origins has made room for star Taron Egerton, the rest of the cast is starting to come together. Eve Hewson, who is excellent on Showtime's The Knick, has signed on to play Maid Marian in the film directed by Otto Bathurst, who she worked with on Peaky Blinders. Penned by Joby Harrold, the film is being described as a gritty origin story in which Robin Hood returns from the Crusades to find Sherwood Forest riddled with corruption. Production should begin next year around summertime. [Deadline]

Joining Anne Hathaway in the oddball monster movie Colossal is Austin Stowell, who also had a role in Whiplash last year. He'll play Hathaway's love interest in the film which centers on a young woman who discovers she has a strange mental connection to attacks in Tokyo by a giant lizard and robot. Nacho Vigalondo (Timecrimes) directs, but all of this assumes the film actually happens. There is an ongoing copyright infringement suit filed by Godzilla rights holders Toho who feel there's too much of a similarity to their own giant lizard monster. Who knows how that will turn out.
