First Trailer for Natalie Portman's Troubled Western 'Jane Got a Gun'

In the case of an oft-troubled film like Jane Got a Gun it's important to remember that a problematic production doesn't necessarily equate to a bad movie. They won't all turn out like Fantastic Four, after all. And no film in recent history has had more difficulties than Natalie Portman's oft-delayed Western, beginning with the sudden departure of director Lynne Ramsay, then the months long struggle to find a male lead to replace Michael Fassbender. All of that is in the past now, and with an opening in France coming up the first trailer has arrived.

Portman produces and stars in the Gavin O'Connor-directed Western that centers on a woman who turns to her gunslinger ex, played by Joel Edgerton, to defend her outlaw husband from a gang that wants to kill him. Ewan McGregor plays the gang's leader, with Noah Emmerich, Rodrigo Santoro, and Boyd Holbrook co-starring. But this is Portman's show, making this the rare Western with a female at the heart of the action.

There's nothing in this footage to suggest the film is a disaster, but it will be very interesting to see how the early reviews go. Jane Got a Gun opens in France on November 25th and here in the U.S. next February.
