FX Developing 'Y: The Last Man' TV Series

Considered by many to be one of the greatest comic book series of recent years, Brian K. Vaughan's Y: The Last Man has been eyed as a Hollywood feature for quite some time. While fans have always seen it as a story perfect for the serial format, attempts to launch a big screen effort continued and failed. But now the project is back in development as a potential TV series for FX.

This is all very early on but given the incredible demand there's good reason for optimism. Vaughan is working with FX to develop the sci-fi comic, which ran for 60 issues between 2002 and 2008. Featuring gorgeous art by Pia Guera, the series centered on Yorick Brown, who finds himself the last man on Earth when all of the males suddenly die. Joined by his Capuchin monkey named Ampersand and the mysterious Agent 355, Yorick attempts to survive a world that just got a lot more dangerous while figurinig out what caused the disaster.

At one point Shia LaBeouf had been circling the Yorick role but he famously shot it down. DJ Caruso was on board to direct, followed by Dan Trachtenberg and others, but the biggest problem is that the studio wanted to tell the entire story in a single two-hour film, a near impossible task. Moving to TV should rectify that problem and give fans exactly what they've been hoping for. [THR]
