'Gambit' Director Shortlist Includes Joe Cornish and Shane Black
It's desperate times for 20th Century Fox and their X-Men spinoff, Gambit. When Rupert Wyatt dropped out a few weeks ago it left them on the hunt for a new director and not a lot of time to find one. Channing Tatum took it upon himself to approach Doug Liman (Edge of Tomorrow), but now two names with previous superhero movie experience have reportedly entered the mix.
According to Heroic Hollywood, Joe Cornish and Shane Black are the latest contenders for the gig directing Tatum and co-star Lea Seydoux. Cornish became a fan-favorite with Attack the Block and he contributed to Ant-Man's screenplay early on, but otherwise he's rejected every major studio project that has come his way. So why would he consider something like this? As for Black, he recently directed and co-wrote Iron Man 3, which didn't do too badly at the box office.
Gambit opens October 7th 2016 with filming to begin next spring.
