Get ready for sensory overload. The last time Italian director Luca Guadagnino and Tilda Swinton paired up it was the for the sensual explosion, I Am Love. It's taken awhile for their reunion, but the early review out of Venice for the sun-drenched drama A Bigger Splash suggest they haven't missed a beat.
Swinton plays a rock star on vacation in the Mediterranean with her hot younger boyfriend, played by Matthias Schoenaerts. The festivities get turned upside down when her ex (Ralph Fiennes) and his daughter (Dakota Johnson) arrive and stir up a "whirlwind of jealousy, passion, and, ultimately danger". While only a little over a minute in length, the sexual energy is palpable and of course the whole thing looks gorgeous, including the cast.
On a side note, it may be time we start looking at Dakota Johnson as a serious actress and not just the submissive chick from Fifty Shades of Grey. She's on a similar path walked by Kristen Stewart during her Twilight years, fitting in performances with auteurs whenever she could.
A Bigger Splash doesn't open here until May 13th 2016.
