'Ghostbusters' Animated Movie In the Works

Pretty soon there will be so many Ghostbusters running around we won't have any ghosts at all. Sony has been looking to expand their franchise beyond Paul Feig's live-action reboot, and according to The Tracking Board and The Wrap's sources, they've decided an animated movie is the way to go.

Ivan Reitman, director of the original two Ghostbusters movies and overseer of the entire franchise, is on board to produce. Currently there is no director or writer attached so details on what the animated feature will be are unavailable, however it's been suggested the story could be set outside of Manhattan. It may also be told from a ghost's point of view. The film will arrive some time after Feig's live-action reboot starring Melissa McCarthy and Kristen Wiig. There's also another live-action film that could include Channing Tatum and be directed by the Russo Brothers (Captain America: The Winter Soldier), although it's been quiet on that project lately.

Of course, older fans will recall the Ghostbusters have already had their own cartoon series which ran from 1986 to 1991. It was popular enough to spawn a line of video games and comic books, plus an animated spinoff centering on their ghost pal, Slimer.
