Michael B. Jordan Rumored for Boba Fett Role in Spinoff
You think some ignorant fans were pissed when Michael B. Jordan was cast as the Human Torch in Fantastic Four? How would they react to him as Star Wars' resident mysterious bad-ass, Boba Fett? That's the rumor circulating now, as he's reportedly up for the role in the eventual Boba Fett spinoff film.
The story emerged from The Wrap's Jeff Sneider (via Latino Review), who also adds that F. Gary Gray (Straight Outta Compton) had contemplated taking over the film before deciding to direct Furious 8. What's interesting about all of this is that the Boba Fett movie is on hiatus due to the firing of director Josh Trank, Jordan's director on Fantastic Four. From a PR perspective it's probably a good thing for Lucasfilm and Disney not to reunite two parts of that failed superhero movie.
Now, some may be figuring that Boba Fett can't be black because the last time we saw him in the prequel trilogy he was played by New Zealand actor Daniel Logan. That's true, but rumors have been going around that it may be someone else in the Mandalorian armor. Besides, this is Star Wars; how hard would it be to come up with a viable explanation for Fett's change in appearance?
The Boba Fett film is part of the 'A Star Wars Story' line of standalone spinoffs. It's currently on hold and replaced by Phil Lord and Chris Miller's Han Solo movie in May 2018. The first one will be Gareth Edwards' Rogue One, which opens in December 2016.
