Neill Blomkamp's 'Alien' Film Now On Hold Due to 'Alien: Paradise Lost'

When Fox decided to move forward on Neill Blomkamp's Alien sequel it was a little bit of a surprise. Nothing about it seemed to jibe with what Ridley Scott was doing with Prometheus, and in the weeks that followed rumblings were that a conflict was going on behind the scenes. Scott began actively developing his sequel, Alien: Paradise Lost, convincing 20th Century Fox to make sure his film came first. That put Blomkamp's film on the backburner for a couple of years, but now the whole thing may be in jeopardy.

Blomkamp recently tweeted that his Alien film is now on hold and "pending" due to Scott's 'Paradise Lost', so he's going to set it aside and work on other projects. "Pending" suggests it may not happen at all, and Fox may decide to wait and see if audiences are really into more Alien films. The reaction to Prometheus was lukewarm at best.  Blomkamp's film would take place some time after Aliens, bringing back Sigourney Weaver and Michael Biehn's characters in a way that doesn't specifically mention Alien 3 or Alien: Resurrection.

So what will Blomkamp do next? Nobody knows, but it won't have xenomorphs in it anywhere.
