New Title and Release Date for M. Night Shyamalan's Thriller with James McAvoy

The partnership between M. Night Shyamalan and Blumhouse Pictures got off to a strong start with the low-budget horror-thriller, The Visit, which earned $89M. That may sound like a small number compared to the blockbusters from earlier in the director's career, but it's tremendous considering the $5M price tag. So it was no surprise they'd seek to keep that collaboration going, and in recent weeks Shyamalan's has begun casting his next thriller, which now has a title and confirmed release date.

The film will be titled Split, and has been set for a January 20th 2017 release date, taking a spot where small-budget thrillers tend to perform very well. James McAvoy and fast rising star Anya Taylor Joy (The Witch) star in the film alongside Betty Buckley, Jessica Sula and Haley Lu Richardson. Joaquin Phoenix had been attached but he was replaced by McAvoy.

Still no plot details, however, as Shyamalan seeks to keep this one under lock and key.
