'Power Rangers' Reboot Casts Its Red Ranger

The original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers TV series didn't have any big names underneath those helmets, and it's done just fine over the last couple of decades. So it's not surprise they're casting unknowns for their upcoming big screen film, simply titled Power Rangers, including the latest addition who is set to play the Red Ranger.

Lionsgate announced today that Dacre Montgomery, who you know from absolutely nothing, has been cast as the Red Ranger. His name didn't appear on the recently released short list meaning he must have really had an impressive audition. He joins the previously cast Naomi Scott who plays the Pink Ranger. A few names have already emerged as possibilities for the Black Ranger role, but there has been little on the other Rangers. Some rumors suggest the film will stick to the continuity of the current TV series, while others claim it to be a complete reboot.

Directed by Dean Israelite, Power Rangers opens January 13th 2017.
