Over the last few weeks Tatiana Maslany has been a finalist for a role in Star Wars: Episode VIII. Given her popularity with fans due to her multiple roles on Orphan Black, Maslany looked like a good bet. But earlier tonight Gugu Mbatha-Raw reportedly scored Star Wars' female lead, and now Maslany is signing up for something completely different. Coincidence? Probably not.
THR reports Maslany is in early talks to star with Jake Gyllenhaal in Stronger, one of numerous films centered around the Boston Marathon bombing. This one is directed by David Gordon Green and is based on the book by Jeff Bauman, who lost both legs in the attack. Gyllenhaal will play Bauman, while Maslany would take the role of his girlfriend Erin Hurley, who was running in the Marathon when the pressure cooker bombs went off.
No start date has been announced but with so many similar films on the way it's probably going to be soon. With Star Wars: Episode VIII already in production the chances are slim that Maslany could do both films even if she wanted to.
