We may all lament the lack of leading roles for the uber-talented Judy Greer (Addicted to Fresno the unfortunate exception), it's undeniable that she's been popping up more than ever in big studio blockbusters. This year alone she's had roles in Ant-Man and Jurassic World, but she was also a key figure in 2014's Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. It may have been a motion-captured performance in which we never actually saw her face, but Greer enjoyed it enough that she's coming back for the sequel.
Production has begun on War for the Planet of the Apes and Greer is returning to be part of it, reprising her role as Cornelia, the wife of ape leader Caesar who will once again be played by Andy Serkis. Also coming back is Karin Konoval as Caesar's longtime ally, Maurice, the orangutan he first met in an ape sanctuary in Rise of the Planet of the Apes. Both Maurice and Cornelia were seen as Caesar's most significant influences and it will be interesting to see where they fit now that all-out war is on the horizon.
War for the Planet of the Apes opens July 14th 2017 directed by Matt Reeves.
