Alicia Vikander is having more than just a moment, she's had an entire year. In 2015 alone she's had eight movies. Some good, like Ex Machina, Testament of Youth, and the potential Oscar contender The Danish Girl; and some maybe not so great like Son of a Gun, Seventh Son, and Burnt. Her 2016 is shaping up to be just as busy, and she's just now added another film to her schedule, Wim Wenders' Submergence.
Vikander joins James McAvoy in the romance thriller which has an interesting long-distance premise. It centers on two lovers separated by thousands of miles and in life or death situations, as they think back to their intense love affair one year ago. Vikander's character is traversing the greatest depths of the ocean floor in a submersible while McAvoy is being held captive by jihadists in Somalia. The film is based on J.M. Ledgard's book and adapted by Erin Dignam, writer of Sean Penn's upcoming movie The Last Face.
Vikander has wrapped on Tulip Fever and Derek Cianfrance's The Light Between Oceans in which she co-stars with Michael Fassbender and Rachel Weisz. She's currently shooting a role in the untitled fifth 'Bourne' movie. [Variety]
