Steven Spielberg and Colin Trevorrow Developing Two 'Jurassic World' Sequels

Universal and Jurassic World director Colin Trevorrow were mulling sequels long before it earned $1.6B and became the third highest-grossing film of all time. But it's now official, and while Trevorrow won't be coming back to direct, he's heavily involved with deveoping the upcoming films, and he's doing it with the help of Steven Spielberg.

Universal Studios big-wig Donna Langley was part of THR's roundtable and talked about what's next for Jurassic World. The answer? A trilogy, of course.

"Colin Trevorrow is busy working on an outline. He's been working with Steven [Spielberg]. And they have an idea for the next two movies actually. It was designed as a trilogy, unbeknown to us. It's a happy surprise."

As if it were truly a surprise. Long forgotten is that Universal had initially rushed into relaunching the franchise and had to take a step back to reevaluate. It was a decision that obviously paid off and should continue to for a long time.

Jurassic World 2 is due to hit theaters on June 22nd 2018.
