Box Office: 'Krampus' Is A Holiday Shocker; 'The Good Dinosaur' Tumbles

1. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay-Part 2 - $18.6M/$227.1
The post Thanksgiving weekend is generally a slow one, so it's no surprise the final chapter in The Hunger Games saga held on to #1 for a third straight week. Worldwide it has hit $523M, which is still behind the previous film, but nobody is going to complain about these numbers.
2. Krampus (review here)- $16M
Well here's a holiday surprise for ya. The Christmas horror Krampus was the only national release so it had a pretty good shot at doing well, but the $16M opening is beyond expectations. The film showed off some footage at Comic-Con last summer but mostly it's been a low-key marketing campaign, with press not even allowed to screen the film in most markets. But audiences dug the idea of something different for the season and jumped at the chance to see Adam Scott, Toni Collette, and others deal with a mythical holiday figure who definitely isn't jolly ol' St. Nick.  This seems like an obvious choice for an eventual sequel, right?
3. Creed- $15.54M/$65.1M
Holding its own in the ring is the much-talked-about Rocky spinoff, Creed, which dropped 48% for a $15.5M haul. Look, it's never going to hit #1, or even #2, but there was never any need for it to. With awards buzz ramping up for everybody involved, including Sylvester Stallone as Best Supporting Actor, the film is geared up to go the distance.
4. The Good Dinosaur - $15.51/$75.9M
Here's something you don't normally see from Pixar; a whopping 60% plummet. That's what happend to The Good Dinosaur, which has received solid but unspectacular reviews since opening last week.  Part of the problem may be that it's the second Pixar movie this year after the amazing Inside Out, and audiences are looking at it as a throwaway effort.  While it currently sits at $131M worldwide, so far it's shaping up to be one of Pixar's lowest-grossing efforts ever.
5. Spectre- $5.4M/$184.5M
6. The Night Before- $4.9M/$31.9M
7. The Peanuts Movie- $3.5M/$121.4M
8. Spotlight- $2.9M/$16.6M
9. Brooklyn- $2.4M/$11.2M
10. Secret In Their Eyes- $1.9M/$17.2M
