The enduring appeal of Absolutely Fabulous has always confounded me. I watched a few episodes of the series back when it seemed to always be on Comedy Central, and other than the occasional chuckle at their celebrity misadventures the show never quite clicked with me. But fans of the series have been clamoring for Patsy and Edina to return on the big screen, and with TV revivals all the rage now is the perfect time for the first teaser for Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie.
Jennifer Saunders and Joanna Lumley are back, of course, with the film directed by Mandie Fletcher, who was at the helm of numerous episodes. And judging by the synopsis you can expect a starry batch of cameos, as well:
Appropriate for their big screen debut, Edina and Patsy are still oozing glitz and glamour, living the high life they are accustomed to; shopping, drinking and clubbing their way around London’s trendiest hotspots. Blamed for a major incident at an uber fashionable launch party, they become entangled in a media storm and are relentlessly pursued by the paparazzi. Fleeing penniless to the glamorous playground of the super-rich, the French Riviera, they hatch a plan to make permanent their escape and live the high life forever more!
In true Ab Fab style, the cast will be joined by a host of A-list stars from the acting, music and fashion worlds.
Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie opens July 1st.
