Over the last week or two, stories have been flying around about Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice being a major worry for Warner Bros. How much of that is true is anybody's guess, but it's thrown a dark cloud over the film (the overlong run time probably doesn't help) and the future of Zack Snyder as director of the two-part Justice League. Well, perhaps in a way to mitigate some of the negative press, the studio has revealed to EW when filming on part one of Justice League will begin, while confirming Snyder as director.
Snyder will begin shooting Justice League on April 11th, with the bulk of the production to take place at Warner Bros.' studios in England...
“The idea that we could begin to boot up a Justice League concept was a cool thing,” says Snyder. “It was a little bit of an ‘about time’ moment, and I don’t blame [the studio] for feeling that way, because it’s a long time coming,” he said. “But I do feel like it’s a little bit of a creative hurdle. It seems like an easy thing to do at first glance, the idea that, ‘Oh, we just get the rest of the superheroes in there.’ But you have to [establish] a world where they can exist.”
The start date is in line with expectations, meaning the film has not been delayed as some thought. Snyder will be working off a script by Chris Terrio (Argo), and will have a cast that includes Henry Cavill as Superman, Ben Affleck as Batman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Ezra Miller as The Flash, Ray Fisher as Cyborg, Jason Momoa as Aquaman, and Amber Heard as Mera. So far no one has been cast as Green Lantern, but that should change soon with this news.
Justice League Part One opens November 17th 2017, with Part Two arriving June 14th 2019.
