When it comes to playing commanding civilian figures in superhero movies, J.K. Simmons is your guy. He's already played J. Jonah Jameson in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy, and now he's jumping over to the DC Universe as part of Zack Snyder's Justice League movies.
Simmons is set to play Gotham City police Commissioner Jim Gordon in Justice League parts 1 & 2, indicating once again that Ben Affleck's Batman really is the center of Warner Bros.' universe. Simmons will join Affleck, Henry Cavill as Superman, Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Ezra Miller as the Flash, Ray Fisher as Cyborg, and Amber Heard as Mera. Gordon can currently be seen every week on the small-screen played by Ben McKenzie on Fox's Gotham series. Gary Oldman played Gordon in Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy.
So take this as a sign that Justice League is definitely moving forward next month, despite the questions that seem to be surrounding Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Justice League: Part One opens Nov 17th, 2017, with Part Two arriving June 14th, 2019. [THR]
