Marvel's 'Iron Fist' Could Also Include "Master of Kung Fu" Shang-Chi
An interesting thing has been happening with Marvel's Iron Fist Netflix series. With the casting of Finn Jones to play Danny Rand aka Iron Fist in the upcoming show, some have begun to complain about the lack of diversity, claiming they should have sought an Asian actor for the role, even though he's Caucasian in the comics. Well perhaps those people will be assuaged now as MCU Exchange and The Hashtag Show are reporting that an Asian actor is being sought for the role of kung fu master, Shang-Chi, who is expected to appear in Iron Fist.
According to the story, Asian males are exclusively being auditioned to play Marvel's "Master of Kung Fu". Much like Iron Fist, the character Shang-Chi was created in the 1970s during the kung-fu craze. The character has been an ally to Iron Fist and his pal Luke Cage, and has also fought alongside Daredevil, making him a perfect fit for Netflix considering all of those characters have their own shows. And if things go well, it's possible Shang-Chi could get one, as well.
Production on Iron Fist will reportedly begin next month, but that seems awfully soon given the lack of casting announcements.
