Move Over 'Gambit', Doug Liman To Direct 'The Wall' First

While things have been looking pretty peachy for 20th Century Fox's X-Men universe with Deadpool and the upcoming X-Men: Apocalypse, all is not perfect. Channing Tatum's Gambit film was to have begun filming already but last month it was yanked off the schedule completely. Not a surprise given the shake-up following Rupert Wyatt's sudden exit as director and the time it took to replace with Doug Liman. Now as rewrites are taking place Liman has set the film aside to focus on something new; a sniper film titled The Wall.

THR reports that The Wall is based on a spec script by Dwain Worrell, which was a top Black List selection and also Amazon's first screenplay ever purchased. The story centers on a sniper and his spotter who are pinned down behind a wall by a legendary sniper, and obviously they must avoid being killed while finding a way to kill their foe.

This one's expected to be a smaller affair so Liman is already planning a late spring/summer shoot, which should give Tatum's buddy Reid Carolin plenty of time to hammer out that Gambit screenplay.
