Reese Witherspoon Out, Kristen Wiig In For Alexander Payne's 'Downsizing'
It was early last year that an Election reunion was set in motion when Reese Witherspoon joined Alexander Payne's next film, Downsizing. But in that time things have apparently changed, and she no longer has the time for it. Fortunately, Payne has made the lateral move of bringing in Kristen Wiig to replace her.
Wiig joins Matt Damon, Christoph Waltz, Alec Baldwin, Neil Patrick Harris, Jason Sudeikis, and Hong Chau in the sci-fi comedy, set in the not-too-distant future when man has learned how to shrink itself to 1/8th size in order to save valuable resources. Damon's character decides to undergo the procedure with his wife and others, only to run into problems when she backs out.
Damon and Wiig worked together on The Martian but spent exactly zero time on screen together, so this will finally give them a chance to do that. Downsizing opens next year on Christmas Day.
