Zack Snyder Leaves Door Open For A 'Man Of Steel' Sequel
With 'Batman v Superman' having taken a nosedive in its second week at the box office, it's probably a little too soon to start talking about the distant future. Immediately there's Suicide Squad and Zack Snyder's Justice League movie, along with Wonder Woman. But what about a sequel to Man of Steel, the film that kicked the DCU off? While there have been varying rumors about a follow-up over the last couple of years nothing has been confirmed, but it sounds like Snyder is leaving open the possibility. He tells IGN...
"I think if we can get a good script, it would be great to get a standalone Superman movie. I think that would be fun to do...Part of the reason we didn't announce a standalone superhero movie is to support some of the event of [Batman v Superman]. "
What he's alluding to is the fairly controversial 'Batman v Superman' ending, which is best left unspoiled for those who haven't seen it yet. Henry Cavill takes another measured response when asked the same question, but it's clear he'd be willing to suit up as the Kryptonian hero once more...
"I do believe it depends on the success of this movie. If this goes well then we can start to negotiate with Warner Bros. for a standalone Superman movie. But they've got their plans set out for other stuff and Justice Leagues and various other movies, so it's about finding the time, really. It's something that I would be very keen to do."
Producer Charles Roven chimed in and added that Warner Bros. is "in the process" of discussing a standalone Superman movie but don't have any concrete plans at the moment. With an entire line of flicks set all the way through 2020 they've got enough on their plate. But we're talking about Superman here; and every effort will be made to keep DC's greatest superhero active on the big screen.
