Roland Emmerich Plots To Destroy Earth Once More With 'Moonfall'

Roland Emmerich's long-awaited sequel Independence Day: Resurgence is in theaters now, and so far the reviews (here is mine) have been pretty mixed. That said, there's still a market out there for Emmerich to blow stuff up, and already he's lined up another planetary disaster movie.

Deadline reports Emmerich has teamed up with 2012 co-writer Harold Kloser and Spencer Cohen for a film called Moonfall, and basically it sounds like a film only Emmerich could cook up.  The film centers on a small group of misfits who must band together to stop the moon from crashing into Earth. Seriously. And Universal really dug the idea because they just shelled out big bucks for the spec with plans for Emmerich to direct, naturally.

If only the moon could have crashed into Emmerich's Stonewall that would have saved us all a lot of grief. Anyway, Moonfall is being fast tracked for a 2018 release, so get those last looks at the moon while you can before Emmerich sends it hurtling into the Golden Gate Bridge or something.
