A Sequel To 'Lights Out' Is In the Works Already
When your $4M film earns 5x that amount during its opening weekend, why wait to announce a sequel? New Line isn't wasting time in green lighting a sequel to the James Wan-produced horror, Lights Out, following its box office success and strong critical reviews.
Director David F. Sandberg is now fully entrenched in the Wan horror-verse, as he'll be coming back to helm the sequel with Eric Heisserer once again scripting. Sandberg is also attached to Annabelle 2, a spinoff of Wan's The Conjuring franchise. So far there's no word if any of the film's stars, such as Teresa Palmer and Maria Bello, will return for more dark terrors or if the story will follow a different family in need of recharging the batteries in their flashlights.
Don't be surprised if somehow they try and tie The Conjuring and Lights Out into the same cinematic universe, because why not at this point? Everything Wan directs turns to gold and there's money in giving him that kind of control. [Deadline]
