It wasn't too long ago that we were talking about Emmy-winning Breaking Bad director Michelle MacLaren as the driving force behind the Wonder Woman movie. But her relationship with Warner Bros. ended pretty badly, and finally we're hearing about what she'll be working on instead. Variety reports MacLaren will direct WWII film, The Nightingale, an adaptation of the bestselling book by Kristin Hannah.
The film boasts a script by Ann Peacock (The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe), but will be given another rewrite by MacLaren and her frequent collaborator, the legendary John Sayles (Matewan), which is pretty exciting. The story follows two French and their struggles coming of age during the German occupation of France during WWII.
So it's not Wonder Woman but this could actually be a better move. MacLaren has been trying to get her big break into features for a while now, and this looks to be her shot. She should be free to work without all of the attention that comes with superhero movies. Keep an eye on this one, especially when they start casting.
