Richard Linklater's 'Last Flag Flying' Eyes Steve Carell, Laurence Fishburne, And Bryan Cranston

Richard Linklater is always busy, but he tends to keep certain projects on the burner for a while. For instance, we knew about Everybody Wants Some!! long before it ever entered production, and the college-set comedy arrived this year to very little fanfare. Certainly it didn't match the response to Boyhood or have the kind of impact as Dazed and Confused. Now Linklater is moving on to another project he's been sitting on for a while, Last Flag Flying, and the cast he's assembling is shaping up to be great.

Variety reports Steve Carell, Laurence Fishburne, and Bryan Cranston are in talks for the film which is a quasi-sequel to Hal Ashby's 1973 film, The Last Detail. Linklater adapted the novel by Daryl Ponsican which catches up with soldiers Billy Bad-Ass, Mule, and Meadows as they deal with 9/11 and the Iraq War as one tries to return home the body of his son killed in the fighting. Jack Nicholson, Randy Quaid, and Otis Young starred in the original, which earned multiple Oscar nominations.

As expected this one is drawing interest from a number of major studios with Amazon the frontrunner.
