An Epic Sea Journey Begins In New Trailer For Disney's 'Moana'
While we look at Dwayne Johnson as Mr. Franchise Viagara now, for turning one action flick after another into a blockbuster studios can't do away with, let's not forget he's been equally successful in family movies. Let's not forget two of his earliest crossover hits were Tooth Fairy and The Game Plan, which showed he could be funny and lovable when not suplexing foes into oblivion. So while he hasn't done a ton of animated family comedies (the less said about Planet 51 the better), Johnson should be right at home voicing Disney's Moana.
Johnson lends his voice to the demigod Maui in the film which features Disney's first Polynesian princess, Moana, voiced by newcomer Auli’i Cravalho. The story finds the young heroine taking to the seas on a dangerous journey to save her people, with Maui by her side. Here's the synopsis:
Three thousand years ago, the greatest sailors in the world voyaged across the vast Pacific, discovering the many islands of Oceania. But then, for a millennium, their voyages stopped – and no one knows why.
From Walt Disney Animation Studios comes “Moana,” a sweeping, CG-animated feature film about an adventurous teenager who sails out on a daring mission to save her people. During her journey, Moana (voice of Auli’i Cravalho) meets the once-mighty demigod Maui (voice of Dwayne Johnson), who guides her in her quest to become a master wayfinder. Together, they sail across the open ocean on an action-packed voyage, encountering enormous monsters and impossible odds, and along the way, Moana fulfills the ancient quest of her ancestors and discovers the one thing she’s always sought: her own identity.
There have been a ton of great animated movies this year but Moana has the potential to top them all. The film sets sail on November 23rd and won't have much 'toon competition until Sing arrives a month later.
