Jessica Chastain Takes On DC's Gun Lobby In First 'Miss Sloane' Trailer

Jessica Chastain hasn't truly been in the Best Actress discussion for a few years, not since 2012's Zero Dark Thirty, which marked her second Oscar nomination following 2011's The Help. Those two roles couldn't have been more different, and her career has shown her taking on projects as varied as The Martian, Crimson Peak, and The Huntsman: Winter's War. But now she may be back in the Oscars race with her new drama, Miss Sloane, a film that finds her taking on the hot-button issue of gun control.

The first trailer for the John Madden-directed film has been released and it's already powerful stuff. She plays Elizabeth Sloane, a Washington lobbyist who basically committed career suicide by taking on the gun lobby. Her efforts to pass a challenging gun control bill earn her all kind of enemies, each with the power to destroy her personally and professionally. And as we've seen here in the U.S., anybody who dares even mention gun control gets attacked in the media, so watching Chastain take on this uphill battle should be fascinating.

Also starring Mark Strong, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Michael Stulbarg, Alison Pill, Jake Lacy, Sam Waterston and John Lithgow, Miss Sloane opens December 9th.
