Scarlett Johansson Has A Zelda Fitzgerald Biopic In The Works, Too

Seven decades after her death, Jazz Age icon Zelda Fitzgerald is suddenly the woman everyone wants to make a movie about. Last week we learned Jennifer Lawrence was set to star in Zelda, a film which Ron Howard may direct. Now today comes confirmation of a story from a few months ago that Scarlett Johansson has a movie on her in the works, too.

The Tracking Board first broke the news back in April, but today the details arrive courtesy of THR. Johansson's film is titled The Beautiful and the Damned, which is a play on the book by Zelda's husband, legendary author F. Scott Fitzgerald. Zelda, who was a writer and artist of note, nevertheless struggled to break out of her husband's shadows. That inability to define herself, coupled with a 1930 diagnosis of schizophrenia, always kept her on the ropes mentally. Along with her husband's personal demons, their marriage was famously tumultuous.

Hanna Weg (Septembers of Shiraz) is writing the script while a search for a director takes place. Despite the star power in both films, chances are only the first one is going to succeed. The race is on.
