Marvel's 'The Inhumans' TV Series Hits ABC And IMAX In 2017

The last we heard of Marvel's plans for an Inhumans movie things weren't looking too good. Years of development had taken place and just as it seemed to be moving forward, the film was bumped off of its 2019 release date and removed from the schedule completely. While the movie may be done (for now), you'll still have a chance to see Black Bolt, Medusa, and the Royal Family on the big screen in a new Inhumans TV series.

Marvel has announced The Inhumans series will debut on ABC in the fall of 2017, but that's only part of the exciting news. Through a unique deal struck by Marvel, ABC, and IMAX, the first two episodes will debut on IMAX theaters worldwide for an exclusive two-week run before hitting ABC with fresh content as part of an eight-episode first season. At this point it's not looking like there will be any connection with Agents of SHIELD which debuted the Inhuman race a couple of years ago. The first two episodes will also be shot entirely using IMAX cameras.

There's a good reason for this to be a standalone effort rather than a crossover series. The Inhumans will follow Black Bolt, the king of the Inhuman Royal Family, which is completely separate from the earthbound affairs we've seen previously. Expect to see Medusa, Crystal, Gorgon, Karnak, and hopefully the teleporting bulldog, Lockjaw.
