Rooney Mara's Past Is A Mystery In First Trailer For 'The Secret Scripture'
You'd be forgiven for not realizing Jim Sheridan's The Secret Scripture had its premiere at Toronto a couple of months ago. Certainly there has been zero buzz on the film, which is odd because he's such a beloved filmmaker thanks to his work on In America, and because of the cast led by Rooney Mara. So that doesn't bode well, neither does the fact no distributor has picked it up yet. Perhaps the newly released trailer will change a few minds.
Based on the novel by Sebastian Barry and co-starring Vanessa Redgrave, Eric Bana, Theo James, and Jack Reynor, the story follows the mysterious past of Rose McNulty, an elderly woman who has been in a mental institution for fifty years. And that past certainly does seem to be an exciting one, encompassing many loves, one obsessive priest, and the Irish Civil War.
I suspect the amount of talent will attract some interest eventually, but it may be a while until that happens, and almost certainly the film won't get a wide theatrical release.
