'Edge Of Tomorrow 2' Gets A Terrible New Title, But At Least Emily Blunt's Coming Back

For a film that made $370M worldwide, Edge of Tomorrow was treated pretty shabbily upon home release. Universal went out of its way to confuse you about what film you might be purchasing by quietly marketing it as Live Die Repeat, rather than the title seen in theaters. It was downright strange. But apparently the studio truly loves that alternate title because they've basically stuck with it for the upcoming sequel.

Speaking with Collider, director Doug Liman not only revealed a familiar name for the movie, but he also confirmed Emily Blunt's return as Sgt. Rita Vrataski...

“We have an amazing story! It’s incredible! Way better than the first film, and I obviously loved the first film. It will be called ‘Live Die Repeat And Repeat.’ Tom [Cruise] is excited about it, and Emily Blunt is excited about it. The big question is just when we’ll do it. But it’s not an if, it’s a when.”

Ugh. I guess that's an appropriately awful title for a film that sounds confusing as Hell. Last year Liman called it "a sequel that's a prequel" and that it would "revolutionize" how people make sequels, whatever that means. He alludes to it again with Collider...

“I’ve had some radical ideas about how to make a sequel that would interest me, in the same way that I had ideas of how you make an independent film and then ‘Swingers’ came along and it was like ‘Aha, that’s the perfect movie for me to test these ideas out on.’ I had these intellectual ideas on how you should make a sequel that are unlike how anybody else makes a sequel, and this script and this idea fit perfectly into that idea. So it’s gonna revolutionize how people make sequels. And again that’s why I try to do things like [a new VR film] ‘Invisible’ that are just, the revolution’s sort of built into the idea. It’s more heresy in the film world for me to pitch things that are sort of unheard of.”

Cruise, Liman, and Blunt are all pretty busy so no start date has been nailed down. Maybe someone can pull an "Edge of Tomorrow" and go back in time for a new title?
