Tom Hardy To Devour 'Venom' Role In Spider-Man Spinoff, Ruben Fleischer Directing
Well, guess who just landed his own superhero movie? Tom Hardy has been neck deep in the genre already, of course, playing Bane in a memorable performance in Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises. And remember, it was Hardy who originally had the Rick Flag role in Suicide Squad before dropping out. Well now he's back but in a movie all to himself, but it won't be for Warner Bros. and DC Comics.
Hardy will star in Sony's developing Venom movie, playing the iconic Spider-Man villain-turned-antihero. What's more, Hardy will be working with Zombieland director Ruben Fleischer, who has signed on to helm the R-rated project. All of this was precipitated by Hardy dropping out of J.C. Chandor's Triple Frontier a few weeks ago, opening up a slot in his schedule. Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinker will write the script, which follows the popular alien symbiote last seen on-screen in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 3. Despite that film being a critical failure, Sony has been angling for a Venom movie ever since.
Remember, Venom already has an October 5th 2018 release date as part of Sony's building non-Spidey cinematic universe. [Variety]
