Trailer For Christopher Nolan's 'Dunkirk' Offers A Gripping Look At WWII
Is it possible anymore to release a summer blockbuster into theaters and not have it be overshadowed by Marvel or DC superhero movies? That question is going to get answered very soon, and if there's one guy who can do it that would be Christopher Nolan. This summer he'll drop his long-awaited WWII thriller, Dunkirk, and another intense trailer is here to remind us it may be the hottest movie of the season.
Starring a cast of mostly unproven actors like Jack Lowden, Fionn Whitehead, and Harry Styles, along with vets Tom Hardy, Cillian Murphy, Mark Rylance, and Kenneth Branagh, the film is set in the aftermath of the Battle of Dunkirk. It follows Operation Dynamo when the defeated Allied forces had to rescue hundreds of thousands of British troops from Northern France, while the Germans rained down death upon them.
This is new territory for Nolan who hasn't made a non-superhero or science-fiction movie in years, and is his first historical effort. Already we can tell the scale is going to be up to the high standards set in his Batman movies, and that is why this absolutely demands to be seen in IMAX.
Dunkirk hits theaters on July 21st.
