Writer Revealed For Fifth 'Game Of Thrones' Prequel Series

There's just one mini-season of Game of Thrones left, but before that even gets started we already know our journey through Westeros isn't over. A few months ago we learned of four "spinoffs", which George R.R. Martin wishes we'd label something else, that were in the works. Soon after he clued us into a fifth series, which he has been less willing to speak of. Now EW can report that fifth spinoff has a writer, a very familiar one, in Game of Thrones scribe Bryan Cogman.

Cogman is one of the top writers on the show, having penned season 7's "Stormborn", as well as 10 other key episodes. Since showrunners D.B. Weiss and David Benioff have no part in the spinoffs, which will be prequels set before Game of Thrones, Cogman is one of the most experienced people involved other than Martin. All we know about his show is that Martin calls it "a very exciting time" in Westeros history, which is vague and redundant since all of it is exciting to us, isn't it?

Of the five series in the works, Martin expects that maybe two or three will have pilots in 2019 or 2020, but don't think that all of them will move forward right away, or at all. Also, don't expect to see any familiar characters, in case you were secretly hoping Samwell Tarley would get to fly solo. Not gonna happen.
