Punch Drunk DVDs

Ted:
Only Seth MacFarlane could make something so vulgar and universally offensive involving a talking teddy bear that would blow up summer box offices across the county and have countless critics (including us) hold it up as the funniest film of the year. While I have gone on record saying that MacFarlane's humor is beginning to wear a little thin on me Ted proves that he's still got a few surprises left in him. Hell, even the fact that 90% of the voices he does are nearly identical doesn't really bother me...just goes to show you that if your movie is truly funny you don't have to bat 1000 on all fronts.

The Sunday Drive 12/9/12

I'm sure you noticed that this was probably the worst week for new movies in a very long time. So there's no movement on the top 3 this week, although the DVD pick is different. The biggest movies of the year are coming up, so expect some wholesale changes to be made!

3. Life of Pi
A magical, spiritual journey like no other, Ang Lee accomplishes what many thought was impossible in adapting Yann Martel's best-selling novel. Combining amazing visual beauty and emotional resonance, Life of Pi is the perfect film for the holiday season.

'Ted', 'The Bourne Legacy' sequels confirmed

When it comes to Seth MacFarlane's hysterical, foul-mouthed hybrid comedy Ted, Universal found themselves with their biggest surprise hit of the year. The film made north of $350M, almost unheard of for an R-rated comedy with an unproven big screen director. On the other hand, The Bourne Legacy's $180M+ haul wasn't really a surprise, but more like a deep sigh of relief. The total isn't amazing by any means, but it's not that far off from what Matt Damon did with The Bourne Identity, and that means people will pay to see more of Jeremy Renner in the lead.

'Prometheus' sequel could hit theaters in 2014, 2015

Yup, this is happening. Thanks to an international box office haul of $303 million, Ridley Scott's stop-pretending-it's-not-a-prequel Prometheus will be getting a sequel, according to what Fox executive Emma Watts told The Hollywood Reporter today. The film didn't do gangbusters - it had a budget of about $130 million, and countless more in marketing, surely - but it's open-ended conclusion leaves a few possibilities for another installment. The film should hit theaters in 2014 or 2015, and Scott will probably return. Personally, I was looking forward to Prometheus like none other and ultimately found it profoundly disappointing ... but that's how it goes, I guess.

So yeah, we can look forward to more Michael Fassbender and Noomi Rapace; both are signed for the sequel. Fassbender's idolization of Lawrence of Arabia was one of the best parts of Prometheus, so maybe they can do more with that in the sequel.

And what else is getting a sequel, according to THR? Universal is considering another Snow White and the Huntsman, Ted and American Pie; Sony another Amazing Spider-Man, Men In Black and 21 Jump Street; Disney a whole slew of Marvel flicks, like sequels to The Avengers, Captain America and Thor; and Warner Bros. may possibly revamp another Batman series and is also thinking about Magic Mike 2 - basically the best news I've heard, ever. And that includes if world peace was somehow announced five minutes ago and I missed it because I was too busy thinking about Channing Tatum writhing around to Ginuwine's "Pony." Tops at the Box Office: 'R'-Rated films rule as 'Ted' and 'Magic Mike' score big

1. Ted- $54.1M
This weekend was one of the biggest of the year, and the biggest for the month of June ever. The surprising thing is that the top were R-rated flicks, and none was more 'R' than Seth MacFarlane's teddy bear buddy comedy. The film far exceeded expectations, and puts the Family Guy creator on the map as a major factor on the big and small screen. For Mark Wahlberg, this is all money in the bank for him, as he continues to be one of the most consistent box office stars around, capable of reeling in the big bucks whether it's in an action movie or a comedy.

3. Magic Mike
Channing Tatum bares more than just skin in the surprisingly textured stripper drama, Magic Mike. Based in part on his early career, Tatum gives a strong performance as a male dancer with aspirations of breaking away from the business, but the seductive pull of the lifestyle remains a constant threat.

Review: 'Ted', starring Seth MacFarlane and Mark Wahlberg

The magical story of a lonely boy who wishes his favorite teddy bear alive sounds may sound like the start of a heartwarming family fairy tale, but in the hands of Seth MacFarlane it's the set up to the most crude, offensive, and possibly funniest movie of the year. The Family Guy creator has a comedic style that is unflinchingly in your face, hard R-rated, and smarter than anything so lewd has any right to be. It's an unfair combination that few can match, and Ted sees MacFarlane at the height of politically incorrect powers.

Seth MacFarlane's 'Ted' set loose on the Nation's Capital!

Well now they've gone and done it! Somebody's let Ted loose in the Nation's Capital, and now things will never be the same! Ted is the hard drinking, potty-mouthed, irresponsible teddy bear star of Seth MacFarlane and Mark Wahlberg's new comedy, written and directed by the boundary shattering Family Guy creator.

Ted(MacFarlane) has been running roughshod over the life of his owner, John Bennett(Wahlberg), ever since the childhood wish to bring the teddy bear to life came true. Now that John's an adult and wants to move forward into a real relationship with his girlfriend, Lori(Mila Kunis), Ted's antics are proving to be a major problem.

Apparently it wasn't enough for Ted to ruin one man's life, he has to defile some of Washington, DC's greatest landmarks, captured in this batch of new photos. Doesn't he know to keep quiet during the President's backswing?

If you happen to catch Ted hanging out in DC this week, tweet a photograph of him using #tedisreal, or visit the official website for more. Ted opens in theaters on June 29th...
