Chris Pine's Steve Trevor Returns (Somehow) In First Looks At 'Wonder Woman 1984'

She survived World War I, but can Wonder Woman possibly have what it takes to take on the '80s and come out alive? The tracksuits alone may do her in. Today, Patty Jenkins took to Twitter and revealed the first look at the Wonder Woman sequel, while also confirming its title to be Wonder Woman 1984. Not sure about that title but if anybody can make it work, it's Jenkins.

The image features Chris Pine, in his tracksuit glory, as the returning from the dead Steve Trevor. How exactly is that possible? I have theories that don't involve being frozen in ice (Captain America called dibs on that one), but I'm curious to see what Jenkins and newly-demoted co-writer Geoff Johns came up with. Maybe this Steve is a shapeshifter of some kind? A clone, perhaps? Maybe he crashed through a wormhole that transported him to the dawn of MTV?

Star Gal Gadot also tweeted out an image featuring Diana staring at a bank of era-appropriate TV monitors. You're practically waiting for Max Headroom to show his face. There's a good chance her scene takes place in the same shopping mall (Mall? What are those??) as the one Pine finds himself in. Maybe Diana took a job working security?

Sadly, no looks at Kristen Wiig as Cheetah but I think we'll have to wait for Comic-Con for that.

Warner Bros. May Bring Ben Affleck And 'The Batman' To Comic-Con

With Marvel bowing out of a major presentation at next month's San Diego Comic-Con, Warner Bros. has another opportunity to steal the show. Arguably they've had Hall H presentations on par if not better than Marvel every year, but the excitement of the moment is later steamrolled by lackluster movies. Will that be the case this time, too? A new rumor claims to have the breakdown of what DC Films projects will be on display.

The first one is a no-brainer, and that's a trailer for Aquaman. Hall H is where the first big trailers tend to debut and Warner Bros. has used the platform to premiere Justice League, Batman v Superman, Suicide Squad, and Wonder Woman footage in the past. The film sees Jason Momoa reprising his role as the Atlantean hero, with James Wan directing. I would expect that Momoa, who had a blast during the Justice League panel last summer, to come surfing back onto the stage along with the film's co-stars.

Another one that's unsurprising is a teaser for Shazam! The time seems right for at least a tiny bit of footage from the Zachary Levi movie, especially since we've already seen images of him as the iconic DC Comics hero. And possibly some concept art for Wonder Woman 2 since production officially begins this month. The rumor goes that it would focus mostly on Kristen Wiig as the villainous Cheetah.  I would actually think more from the '80s-set sequel could be available since we've seen teasers cut in less time in order to make a big Comic-Con splash.

While the story also suggests Warner Bros. will unveil a full DC Films slate, that wouldn't be such a big deal. Last year they did exactly that, teasing Flashpoint, Green Lantern Corps, and other films that are either off the schedule, dramatically changed, or going nowhere.

The big surprise would be if Matt Reeves and Ben Affleck arrive to hype up The Batman as the rumor suggests. I have a hard time buying this one but it would be the biggest news of the Con if true. First of all, it would confirm recent buzz that Affleck may be sticking around as Batman, especially now that Jake Gyllenhaal has signed up for Spider-Man: Homecoming 2. But with development on the movie seeming to move so slow, with a villain reportedly unconfirmed, a big announcement seems unlikely. Would Warner Bros. risk embarrassing themselves by announcing a release date they may not be able to hit?

'Wonder Woman 2' Is Coming To Alexandria's Abandoned Landmark Mall

Here's what we know about Wonder Woman 2. It'll reunite star Gal Gadot with director Patty Jenkins, it'll move the action forward to the 1980s, Kristen Wiig is playing Cheetah, and there will be a need for a deserted shopping mall in Alexandria, VA.  The superhero sequel is coming to my neck of the woods to shoot scenes at Landmark Mall, a once-great shopping hub that is pretty much a ghost town now.

Who knows? Maybe only an Amazonian can pump some life into a dead shopping mall? We'll find out when production moves there in June and July, with some additional filming to take place at undisclosed locations in DC.

This will be a big economic boost to the area as movie productions usually bring with them a ton of spending. And of course, DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. are getting their share of incentives for coming.  Maybe a new Godkiller sword? The last one got all broken up.

I spent A LOT of time as a kid wandering Landmark's halls. I was there a few months ago to hit up Macy's but there wasn't much else going on. Looks like I'll need to make a return visit soon, hang out with the Amazons.  Maybe treat 'em to an Orange Julius.

'Wonder Woman 2' Casts Pedro Pascal In A Mystery Role

Pedro Pascal, the Red Viper himself who got smushed by the Mountain on Game of Thrones, has just signed up for the Wonder Woman sequel. As for who he'll be playing? That's anybody's guess right now.

The cast for Patty Jenkins' sequel is shaping up nicely with Pascal and Kristen Wiig on board to join Gal Gadot and Chris Pine. Wiig will be playing Wonder Woman's chief nemesis, Cheetah. My gut tells me Pascal plays an entirely new character, but we shall see. Chances are we won't find out for a while. Details on the sequel have been kept quiet, but we do know it will be set in the 1980s.

Pascal was recently seen opposite Channing Tatum in Kingsman: The Golden Circle, and will work alongside Denzel Washington in this summer's The Equalizer 2. He had been starring in Netflix's excellent Narcos series but left after season 3.

'Wonder Woman 2': Kristen Wiig Confirmed To Bring The Funny As Cheetah

Wonder Woman is about to get a lot funnier. If there was a complaint about Patty Jenkins' film it's that the villain, Ares, didn't have much personality. Like no personality at all. That looked to change when rumors surfaced that Kristen Wiig was up to play Cheetah in the upcoming sequel. Surely she would bring the funny, right? Well now Jenkins has taken to Twitter to make the news official. Welcome aboard, Kristen Wiig!

Wiig will go toe-to-toe (lasso-to-paw?) with Gal Gadot in the sequel, which will reportedly take place in the 1980s during the Cold War. Cheetah is arguably Wonder Woman's greatest foe, or at least her most recognizable having appeared in multiple cartoons and video games. Real name Barbara Ann Minerva, Cheetah was a British archaeologist who becomes an avatar of an African cheetah god. It's as bizarre as it sounds, and if they stick with that I can see Wiig having a lot of fun with it.

'Wonder Woman 2' Eyes Kristen Wiig For Villain Role

A few days ago fairly obvious rumors surfaced that Wonder Woman 2 would feature the villain known as Cheetah. This was unsurprising since Cheetah is arguably Wonder Woman's most well-known foes, and has been seen in cartoons, comics, and video games for decades. Part of that story was Warner Bros.' hope to snag a big star for the role, first approaching Emma Stone who turned it down. Well now they may have found their gal, as Kristen Wiig is reportedly in talks to join star Gal Gadot.

Wiig would be playing Barbara Ann Minerva aka Cheetah, who in the past was best recognized by her campy cheetah costume. In more recent versions she's more of a cat/human hybrid. Her origin has undergone some changes, but she was originally a neurotic British archaeologist who discovers a lost tribe in Africa and becomes the avatar of the cheetah god, nursing an unhealthy obsession with Wonder Woman and the Amazons.

I can see Wiig having great fun with a role like this, but can anybody see her getting into a fight with a badass like Gadot? Here's hoping she has some henchmen, or henchwomen, to do her dirty work.

Patty Jenkins is returning to direct and Chris Pine is expected back, as well, despite the film being set during the 1980s Cold War.  Wonder Woman 2 opens November 1st 2019.

Emma Stone May Have Turned Down Cheetah Role In 'Wonder Woman 2'

I don't consider this much of a rumor because, frankly, it seems like a no-brainer. That Hashtag Show, a source that demands you take everything from it with a grain of salt, has a rumor that Wonder Woman 2 will introduce Diana's main nemesis, Cheetah, when shooting begins in a couple of months.

The film will reunite director Patty Jenkins and star Gal Gadot, and apparently Chris Pine as Steve Trevor is somehow supposed to return even though the story takes place in the 1980s.  How they would introduce Cheetah into the mix is unclear, though. Multiple versions of the villainess have been featured in DC Comics lore, but it's the Barbara Ann Minerva incarnation this story says will be on the big screen. Minerva was a neurotic British archaeologist who discovers a lost tribe in Africa and becomes the avatar of the cheetah god, nursing an unhealthy obsession with Wonder Woman and the Amazons.  Multiple versions of Barbara Ann Minerva exist, too, so I wouldn't be surprised if an amalgamation of the character is what is ultimately used.

With filming beginning so soon we should start hearing about potential casting, as Warner Bros. is said to be looking for a big name star for the role. The report claims Emma Stone was the first name approached but that she turned it down. That's fine because I'd much rather she play Poison Ivy in a Batman movie, just sayin'.

The DC Films Lineup Looks Exactly The Same Following 'Justice League'

We thought that in a post-Justice League landscape at Warner Bros. there might be wholesale changes to the upcoming DC Films lineup. There has been a shakeup in leadership, which should count for something, but what kind of impact would that have on their slate of superhero movies? Apparently none, because it all looks exactly the same as it did before Justice League bombed so hard.

Last summer at Comic-Con, Warner Bros. unveiled every DCEU film they had coming up, including surprising confirmations like Flashpoint, Justice League Dark, and Green Lantern Corp. Over the weekend, fans at the Comic-Con Experience in Brazil got a look at the state of DCEU movies and...well, nothing has changed. Actually, I take that back. They actually add one more movie; Joss Whedon's Batgirl.

I don't know whether to be surprised in a good way or a bad way. On the one hand I'm happy they didn't let one underwhelming box office performance destroy everything they've been trying to build since Man of Steel. On the other...well, shouldn't there be some reevaluation  or something?  Perhaps they've taken the hint that the biggest change they need to make is less Zack Snyder, and are going to see how things go without him first?

Still a problem is that most of these movies don't have directors, and thus aren't really going anywhere. Wonder Woman 2 has Patty Jenkins returning, Aquaman has James Wan, and Shazam will be kicking off soon with David F. Sandberg. The Batman will have Matt Reeves behind the camera but has yet to secure a star since it doesn't look like it will be Ben Affleck.

What you don't see are some of the spinoff films, like Gotham City Sirens, none of the various Harley Quinn movies, Cyborg, or Nightwing. Who knows what the status of those are, if any.  In a way it's good that DC Films has a loose plan for the future, but since most of these movies are nowhere near production it makes me wonder if they'll happen.

'Wonder Woman 2': Patty Jenkins Teases A New "Love Story" for Diana

Warner Bros. probably can't wait until 2019. That's when they plan to release the sequel to Wonder Woman, the only film they've got that has been a complete success, both with audiences and with critics. Smartly, they locked in Patty Jenkins to return as director, and of course Gal Gadot to return for her fourth time in the role. While it's still very early on in crafting the story details, Jenkins opened up on Variety's podcast about her plans for the sequel, which may include a new love interest for Diana...

“It’s really still going to other values of hers, and a similar formula insofar as making a great, enjoyable fun movie but that ultimately in its third act turns some very big issues, and a very big experience that will aim to have slightly more weight and profundity than it has to have. Because that’s a formula that I really like, and I like the idea of taking somebody on a very solid, great journey but that arrives at a bigger question being answered. So it’s like that but because she is Wonder Woman and she’s here now and she’s fully developed, it’s got great fun from the start and great big superhero presence from the start, and is funny and a great love story again and a couple new unbelievable characters who I’m so excited about, who are very different than were in the last movie.”

I feel sorry for the guy who tries to step up after Steve Trevor (Chris Pine); you don't want to be that guy. That's like being the guy who replaced Michael Jordan on the Chicago Bulls after he retired (It was Pete Myers, by the way.); you simply can't measure up. It's even suggested in Justice League that Trevor was the only great love of Diana's life, so whoever this next dude (Or woman?? She is an Amazon, after all) is probably won't stick around long.

Or perhaps Jenkins is speaking more dramatically, and that love story is about Wonder Woman falling in love with humanity? It's an emotional arc we know she needs to go on, right?

Gal Gadot Talks Brett Ratner's Removal From 'Wonder Woman 2'

There was an awkward moment just as our screening of Justice League was beginning. Listed among the film's producers was RatPac-Dune Entertainment, which is the label run by Brett Ratner, who has been accused of sexual harassment and misconduct. His name was also attached to the hugely successful Wonder Woman, but Warner Bros., like pretty much everybody in Hollywood, has been doing their best to distance themselves from him. And that was rumored to go double for star Gal Gadot, who reportedly wouldn't sign on for a sequel unless she had assurances Ratner had nothing to do with it.

But since then, Warner Bros. has not only moved Wonder Woman 2 up a couple of months, they've also confirmed Gadot's return. Sure, the studio has already parted ways with Ratner, but was Gadot's threat legit? She gave her side of the story on The Today Show and this is what she had to say...

“Everyone knows the way that I feel because I’m not hiding anything. But the truth is, there’s so many people involved in making this movie — it’s not just me — and they all echoed the same sentiments. Everyone knew what was the right thing to do. But there was nothing for me to actually come and say because it was already done before this article came out.”

So basically she got what she wanted, but it wasn't a decision that was really up to her. Fortunately, those in the position to do something felt the same way she did, and Gadot can back into the business of lassoing up bad guys as Wonder Woman.

'Wonder Woman' Sequel Moved Up Six Weeks, Gal Gadot Set To Return

Any hope of a Wonder Woman vs. Jedi showdown is going to have to wait for another year. Warner Bros. has done the smart thing and moved Wonder Woman 2 up from its December 13th 2019 date a whole six weeks to November 1st. That will take it nice and far away from Star Wars: Episode IX which would have opened on the same day.

Also, Deadline's report confirms that Gal Gadot and director Patty Jenkins are  locked to return, despite rumors stating that Gadot wouldn't agree if Brett Ratner's RatPac-Dune Entertainment label was involved as they were in the first movie. But Warner Bros. has already cut ties from Ratner, and the last film with them that he'll have anything to do with is Rampage starring Dwayne Johnson.

This is, obviously, a brilliant move and shouldn't be seen as Warner Bros. lacking faith in the sequel. Wonder Woman is one of the brightest lights they've had this year, and should give them hope for the future of the DCEU, along with Justice League. But nothing stands up to Star Wars and wins, so why not give Diana of Themyscira enough room to lasso an even bigger audience this time.

Rumor: Gal Gadot Won't Sign For 'Wonder Woman 2' Until Brett Ratner Is Out

We may all take a certain amount of glee at mocking Brett Ratner as a terrible director, but the truth is he's extremely powerful. Through his Ratpac-Dune Entertainment production banner, he's had a hand in producing some of this year's biggest hits, including Dunkirk, It, and...yep, Wonder Woman. So removing Ratner out of the equation following allegations of sexual misconduct may be tougher than it looks, but if Warner Bros. wants a Wonder Woman sequel they'll need to make it happen.

According to a report from Page Six (judge accordingly), Gal Gadot is refusing to sign on for Wonder Woman 2 until Ratner is completely taken off the movie. Ratner's label made a healthy profit on the first film, but Gadot wasn't the sequel, which again will have female empowerment as a core theme, to be tarnished by having a sexual harasser making key decisions.

Makes sense, and Gadot is reportedly sticking to her guns on this one. Warner Bros. should have no problem finding another funding source, but if they dawdle on this it could look really bad. Best to nip this thing in the bud now before it becomes a bigger story than it needs to be.

'Wonder Woman' Sequel Joined By 'The Expendables' Writer Dave Callaham

The pieces are falling into place for Warner Bros.' Wonder Woman sequel. They have a director now that Patty Jenkins has signed a record-breaking deal to return; they of course have a star in Gal Gadot; and now there's a co-writer to join Jenkins and Geoff Johns in crafting the Amazon princess's second solo adventure.

The Expendables and Godzilla writer Dave Callaham has come aboard to co-write the script, which is rumored to send Wonder Woman to America decades after the first movie which was set during WWI. There's also the chance her invisible jet shows up, too, although honestly I hope they leave that cheesy thing out.  Jenkins is said to have brought Callaham on herself, having worked with him on Jo Nesbo adaptation Jackpot, which she was going to direct before taking the Wonder Woman gig.

Patty Jenkins Is Officially Back To Direct 'Wonder Woman 2'

It took Warner Bros. a little while longer than expected, but they have finally struck a deal with Patty Jenkins to direct Wonder Woman 2. This has been in the works for a while, as the sequel was green lit long before Wonder Woman's record-breaking $800M box office. The news was confirmed by Variety, who note that star Gal Gadot is also signed to return.

If prior reports are true, Jenkins has just become the highest-paid female director in Hollywood history, surpassing others like Kathryn Bigelow and Ava Duvernay. It's hard to argue with her credentials, since Wonder Woman earned the higest box office for a woman director, and is easily the most successful DCU film, besting Man of Steel, Suicide Squad, and Batman v Superman. More importantly, audiences genuinely loved it and are eager to see where the cinematic universe goes next with Justice League.

Jenkins has been doing her part to flesh out the sequel's story with Geoff Johns, so she was invested in the character even without a return deal. Now let's hope this leads to Jenkins, and other female directors, getting the due they've long deserved and perhaps more opportunities to direct superhero movies.

Patty Jenkins To Lasso A Mega-Deal For 'Wonder Woman 2' Return

Wonder Woman isn't just DC Films' highest-grossing movie; it's changed the perception of the entire brand. Man of Steel, Batman v Superman, and Suicide Squad, while earning a lot of money, were met with poor reviews from critics and audiences alike. Worse, it seemed like Warner Bros. had no idea of how they wanted to construct their cinematic universe, other than to throw a Justice League movie at it. Then came Wonder Woman, and suddenly all is (mostly) right.

They couldn't have done it without director Patty Jenkins, and that's why Deadline is reporting that she is on the verge of inking a deal to return for Wonder Woman 2. And once the ink on that deal dries, she'll not only be the highest-paid female director ever, but one of the highest-paid directors, period. It was expected she would come back, especially since she has been helping flesh out the sequel's story which is to be set in the 1980s.

Warner Bros. is doing the right thing by Jenkins. She deserves everything that's coming to her for helping to set DC Films on the right path, because it could have gone very differently. Remember, it was Michelle MacLaren who had the job first but creative differences (remember the talking tigers!?) forced her out. That's not a knock on MacLaren who is a very good filmmaker, it's just that Jenkins took the ball and ran with it. Now if only they could get their shit together with Justice League and The Batman...

'Wonder Woman' Sequel Set For December 2019

There's absolutely no reason to be surprised by news that Warner Bros. has officially confirmed Wonder Woman 2's release date, except that they actually took their time doing it. Over the weekend at Comic-Con the sequel was listed among their upcoming slate, so it was clear an announcement was on the way, and here it is.

Wonder Woman 2 will hit theaters on December 13th 2019, an interesting date given how well the first film continues to do over the summer. Patty Jenkins has been helping Geoff Johns hammer out a script, so we can expect her to return to direct Gal Gadot as the Amazonian warrior and current most popular character in the DCEU. Sorry, Batman, but you know it's true. The story will reportedly take place in the '80s.

This also means Wonder Woman 2 won't be occupying one of those two new release dates in 2020 as many expected, including me.

Comic-Con: Geoff Johns Updates On 'Wonder Woman 2', New 'Justice League' Poster Revealed

The Warner Bros. panel is literally minutes away from kicking off here at Comic-Con, but it already seems like some of the news is breaking early. Speaking with Yahoo!, DC Films' Geoff Johns has revealed that work has begun on a Wonder Woman 2 script.

“I’m working right now on the Wonder Woman 2 script. I just started.”

Not a shock, but good to know. Gal Gadot will be back, of course, and Patty Jenkins, who has been helping Johns with the storyline, rumored to take place in the '80s, is in negotiations to return as director. With a pair of 2020 dates set it's likely one of those will fall to a Wonder Woman sequel.

Meanwhile, Warner Bros. has also dropped a brand new Comic-Con poster for Justice League, featuring the entire team gathered together looking rather pissed. They must've heard those stories about Ben Affleck leaving as Batman, too. Speaking of which, this could be a very interesting panel if somebody brings that up. Hopefully we'll get some clarification on what Affleck's status is. Stay tuned. I'm down here in the Hall H pit ready to go.

Rumored 'Wonder Woman 2' Details Tease Cold War Setting And A Character's Return

Wonder Woman is now the highest-grossing DC Films movie ever, besting Man of Steel, Batman v Superman, and Suicide Squad. Impressive, and of course movement has already begun on a sequel, although director Patty Jenkins has not yet signed on to return. And although there is no script or anything yet, Screen Rant seems to think they have details on the sequel's storyline. If I seem a little suspicious, it's because I am.

Apparently, the followup movie will find Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman facing Soviet forces during the tail end of the Cold War in the 1980s. Okay...I'm not sure why Wonder Woman's solo franchise seems to be about building up her backstory, but whatever.  The oddest part of this is that Steve Trevor, played by Chris Pine in the current movie, will make a return despite the fate he suffered.  I mean, of course it wouldn't be surprising if Pine did come back; he's a big star and relegating him to one appearance seems silly. But I'm very curious to know how it would be possible for Trevor to return, unless he was bathed in one of those Lazarus Pits littered all over the DC Universe. If you don't know what a Lazarus Pit is, look it up.

I have my doubts about any of this, and will continue to be doubtful until there's more reliable sourcing. Supposedly Jenkins and DC Films co-chief Geoff Johns are working on a story now, which means it could be some time before we hear anything close to official. Then again, Comic-Con is next week and I'm sure they'll have something to say about Wonder Woman's further adventures.

Patty Jenkins Isn't Signed To A 'Wonder Woman' Sequel Yet

Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins was just on CNN earlier this morning, talking the film that has made her, and star Gal Gadot, the most talked-about women on the planet right now.  Jenkins has been everywhere, and Warner Bros. is smart to keep her out there on the press circuit because she's a strong champion for the film and for female directors everywhere. That said, they might want to get around to locking her down for a sequel.

Turns out you can't trust everything you read. A few days ago THR reported that Jenkins and Gadot were contractually bound for a Wonder Woman sequel, that would likely be set in modern day America. Well, THR has now reversed course, saying that only Gadot has the standard return clause. Oops. That might cost them some extra cashola because Jenkins is in-demand.

We'll see what happens as the studio wants to get negotiations moving soon. They've got a lot on their plate solidifying DC Films with Justice League coming up, Aquaman next year, The Flash still in turmoil and priority projects like Batgirl and Justice League Dark.  We may not hear much about Wonder Woman 2 until those are well underway.

Wonder Woman? Yeah, it's doing pretty well for itself with $100M domestic and $223M worldwide, the most ever for a female director. Warner Bros. is undoubtedly glowing right now, but soon they'll begin looking forward to what comes next. We know Gal Gadot will show up next in Justice League, and that she and director Patty Jenkins are under contract to return for a sequel which will reportedly be contemporary. Details are going to be scarce for a while, but we do have one more tiny bit of info on it.

Jenkins tells EW that Wonder Woman 2 will take place primarily in America, rather than London and Themyscira, which I'll admit to finding a little disappointing...

“The story will take place in the U.S., which I think is right.  She’s Wonder Woman. She’s got to come to America. It’s time.”

While we know she's obligated to return, Jenkins made it clear that she's given the sequel some thought and is excited for what comes next...

“I’m not a big obligation person when it comes to art. You want to do a movie like this because you believe in it.  Then I had this revelation in the middle of the night: this is your dream cast, you’ve created a character that you love and you can say anything you want in the world right now.  Then I realized that Wonder Woman 2 is its own great movie. I made Wonder Woman. Now I want to make Wonder Woman 2. It’s a beautiful story to tell, an important time to tell it and with people that I love.”

And don't think for a second that the pressure is off. Now it's going to be about proving the first movie wasn't a fluke. But if anybody can handle the pressure it's Jenkins and Gadot. I'm just curious to know what villains she could be facing. Is it too soon to start talking about the return of Dr. Poison? And there HAS to be a Cheetah appearance, right?
