New 'Birds Of Prey' Clips Have Harley Quinn Battling On Roller Skates

This week Birds of Prey finally comes flying into theaters. Kinda feels like we've been waiting forever for it, thanks to the Gotham City Sirens confusion. The film returns Margot Robbie to the role of Harley Quinn, who is no longer tied down by the Joker (figuratively, although literally is probably true, too), and must team up with an all-new girl gang to survive the threat of Roman Sionis, aka Black Mask, played by Ewan McGregor.

Since we know Harley Quinn is entirely unhinged, and this movie is largely seen from her perspective, expect it to get pretty bonkers. In a handful of new clips we get an idea of just how far off the wall this could go, with Harley Quinn battling some of Sionis' goons on a pair of roller skates, swining her mallet around with reckless abandon.

In another clip we see Harley Quinn being interrogated by Sionis and his right-hand-man Victor Zsasz (Chris Messina), and in another we see her, along with Huntress (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), Black Canary (Jurnee Smollett-Bell), Renee Montoya (Rosie Perez), and Cassandra Cain (Ella Jay Basco) realizing they must work together. I think this scene also reveals a certain character's death, so beware of spoilers. There's more, including Black Canary breaking out her soulful rendition of "It's A Man's World", giving Smolett-Bell a chance to show what she can do.

Three 'Dark Phoenix' Clips Tease The X-Men's Final Battle

It's the last stand of the X-Men, only for real this time! Dark Phoenix marks the final movie in Fox's take on the X-Men, concluding a franchise that began way back in 2000. It's been a long, problematic journey but it's good to know that twenty years into these movies and the same argument is taking place between Charles Xavier and Magneto. No wonder mutantkind is doomed.

Three new clips have been released, including one that shows former pals Xavier (James McAvoy) and Magneto (Michael Fassbender) taking opposite positions on what to do about Jean Grey (Sophie Turner) who has turned deadly after an encounter with the Dark Phoenix. This clip shows Magneto with his crew, a couple of new characters and Beast (Nicholas Hoult) who appears to have turned his back on his old friends.



The next scene is another slow-motion rescue from Quicksilver (Evan Peters), this time as he races through a spaceship to save the crew. Along for the ride is Nightcrawler (Kodi Smit Phee), while Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence), Storm (Alexandra Shipp) kick their feet up and relax. Come on, gang! How about some words of encouragement?


And finally, a really stilted scene involving Jean Grey and a mysterious alien (Jessica Chastain) who is encouraging the young mutant to use her newfound cosmic powers to the fullest.  The true identity of Chastain's character has yet to be revealed, but I'm just to say it now: she's Mr. Sinister in disguise.  That's my guess, anyway, and I know it'll be true because I've waited 20 years for Sinister so naturally it will happen just in time for a reboot.

New 'Aladdin' Clips Set Will Smith As The Movie's Saving Grace

The bloom is really off the rose of Disney's live-action remakes, and you can see it in the non-existent buzz surrounding Aladdin. Unlike their upcoming remake of The Lion King which I think there's genuine excitement for, Aladdin feels like just another movie coming out this month when it should be a major event. One reason could be a tepid clip like the one below, which sets up one of the most memorable scenes from the classic 1992 movie.

Mena Massoud plays the titular street urchin, who in this clip is seen trying to win the heart of Princess Jasmine (Power Rangers star Naomi Scott). With a little bit of charm, some courage to throw himself off a balcony, and a lot of help from a magic carpet, it looks as if he's on his way to doing so. While titled "A Whole New World", the scene doesn't actually include the famous song so I'm guessing Disney wants to hold that for those who buy a ticket.



Nothing about this does much for me, though. While director Guy Ritchie (that still amazes me) has done a solid job of faithfully recreating the animated movie, it's Scott and Massoud who fail to impress. Neither of them seems to be bringing much to the table, and while it's too soon to pass final judgement there doesn't appear to be much chemistry between them.

Fortunately, there may be one saving grace and that's Will Smith. I know, folks have been tough on his depiction of Genie and for very good reason. Stepping in to fill the shoes of the late Robin Williams is a tough deal for anybody, but in the clip "I Wish to Become a Prince" he gets a chance to make the character his own. Sure, he's just being himself but we like Smith when he's that way, which is funny and silly and wildly charismatic. He's just a lot of fun to watch, which is how Genie should be. I've also included a clip of Smith showing off his musical skills to Jimmy Fallon with an impromptu rendition of the popular Aladdin song "Friend Like Me." It's pretty cool.

Aladdin opens May 24th and co-stars Marwan Kenzari as Jafar, Navid Negahban as the Sultan of Agrabah, Nasim Pedrad as Dalia, Alan Tudyk as Iago, and Billy Magnussen as Prince Anders.

Two Clips From 'Ant-Man And The Wasp' Deliver Big Marvel Action

Marvel's grip on the summer blockbuster season continues in just a few days with Ant-Man and the Wasp. The latest clips do a good job of teasing a little bit of the film's action, which I think is better than in the previous movie. And they also offer better looks at two of the movie's villains, Hannah John-Kamen as the mysterious Ghost, and Walton Goggins as Sonny Burch.

The first clip shows a fight between Evangeline Lilly's Hope van Dyne and Ghost, a battle that makes it clear the villain won't be easy to take down. Or even to lay a hand on. She possesses strange phasing powers that make her virtually impossible to hit, but there's a lot to the origin of those powers. The second clip is part of the chase scene that has become a big part of the movie's marketing.  We get to see Paul Rudd's Scott Lang in Giant-Man mode, chasing down Burch and his goons using a truck as a scooter. We also see Michael Pena as Luis, who appears taken with how easily Hope takes out Burch's men.

Directed by Peyton Reed, Ant-Man and the Wasp opens July 6th.

T'Challa Remembers His Father In Two 'Black Panther' Deleted Scenes

A couple of days ago saw the release of the first Black Panther deleted scene, centering on the relationship between two important but definitely supporting characters. Today there are two more scenes dropped from the movie's final cut and these focus on T'Challa and his relationship with his father, T'Chaka, the former king of Wakanda and predecessor as Black Panther.

In the first clip we see a much younger T'Chaka, still spry and active as the Black Panther, grappling with a difficult choice he's been forced to make. But he also catches his son T'Challa snooping around with Nakia, and they discuss the responsibilities that weigh on a king's shoulders. T'Chaka's jokes about being "old and grey" in the future resonate in the second clip, which takes place after T'Challa has defended his crown and undergone the ritual to regain his Black Panther powers. After speaking with his deceased father in the spirit realm, T'Challa talks with Zuri (Forest Whitaker) about why his father gave up being Black Panther while remaining king, and the response is pretty funny.

Neither of these scenes needed to be in the final cut, that's for sure, but they do help flesh out the film's central theme of a father's legacy to his son.  Black Panther is still in theaters now, but hits digital on May 8th and Blu-ray a week later.

Bruce Banner Has A Dire Warning In New 'Avengers: Infinity War' Clip

While we've heard rumblings about it, the first Avengers to have a run-in with Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War are likely to be Thor and Hulk, following from the events of Thor: Ragnarok. In the aftermath we've seen images of Loki, still in possession of the Tesseract, in the grip of the Black Order. We've also seen Thor knocked comatose until he encounters the Guardians of the Galaxy. Bruce Banner somehow makes his way to Earth, though, where he connects with Doctor Strange, Wong, and Tony Stark.

In this extended version of the clip we recently posted, Banner issues a dire warning about Thanos' arrival and how important it is that he not get his hands on the final Infinity Stone.

I'll continue to note that we haven't seen Banner as Hulk in any of the footage, which makes me think he somehow gets depowered by Thanos or his Black Order.

'Infinity War' Rumors, Three New Clips, And Its Near Record-Breaking Budget

If I'm gonna break my promise, might as well do it big. Avengers: Infinity War is on the mind of pretty much everybody, and there are no shortage of rumors and footage around for those who want to find it.  While I said I wouldn't post anymore about it until the screening was over, the caveat was if they were too big to ignore. I think these items qualify, starting with a slip of the tongue by the Winter Soldier himself, Sebastian Stan.

Speaking with Independent, Stan seems to have the caught the same blabbermouth disease Josh Brolin is afflicted with. He talks about one particular scene, a scene that includes EVERYBODY, including some people who haven't been announced at all...

“There was one scene, I think, we had where everybody was there. I can’t really talk about that scene, but I knew it took them three months in planning this scene to have everyone there,” he said. “You look around and you just saw everyone from Samuel L. Jackson to Michael Douglas to Michelle Pfeiffer. Everybody was there.”

Samuel L. Jackson, eh? Well that would seem to confirm the Nick Fury rumors from a few weeks ago. And Michael Douglas as Giant-Man and Michelle Pfeiffer as Jane Van Dyne? Wait...why would she be there? Isn't she lost in the Quantum Zone?  How does that work? Having re-read the interview a couple of times he does seem to be talking about Infinity War, but those comments would have made more sense if it was Avengers 4. Maybe all of the touring has him confused? To be fair, the actors are getting asked about both movies at the same time and we're seeing some crossover in their answers. Call this a rumor for now.

Another bit of information has to do with the Infinity War's budget. I mean, come on. With the list of superstars this movie had to pull together we knew it was going to be expensive enough to put a dent in Tony Stark's bank account. Turns out Disney may need those stars just to break even. WallStreetJournal puts the final budget near $300M, which may sound like the most ever but it's not by a longshot. That distinction goes to Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides at $378M.  With Infinity War expected to open with $200M+ I think they'll be okay.

And finally, here are three new clips from the film, all bringing you a different angle on this massive flick.  In the first scene we get a fight between Avengers Captain America, Falcon, and Black Widow against the Black Order's Corvus Glaive and Proxima Midnight. This is the piece that seems to confirm recent speculation about Peter Dinklage's role, so listen closely for that.

The next clip puts Black Panther breakout Shuri (Letitia Wright) in the spotlight as she makes a case for being the smartest person in the MCU. While scanning Vision (Paul Bettany) alongside Mark Ruffalo's Bruce Banner, the youthful Wakandan scientist shows up her elder and lets him know about it.

Finally, a bit more humor (There's going to be a lot, apparently), as Stark finds himself on the receiving end of a slap courtesy of Doctor Strange's (Benedict Cumberbatch) cloak. You can't take that thing anywhere.

New 'Justice League' Clips: Steppenwolf Attacks, The World Needs Superman

Justice League is right around the corner, and depending on how you feel about these things there is either too much marketing or not enough. Clearly it's the latter for Warner Bros. who need this film to be a smash on the level of Wonder Woman, in order to keep the positive momentum going. And so they've dropped a bunch of new clips, and while I'm usually hesitant to post footage so close to release these don't seem to be too spoilery.

A whopping seven clips are available now, with most just extensions of scenes that have been in trailers and TV spots. A couple are different, though, like one in which Batman (Ben Affleck) tells Alfred (Jeremy Irons) just how badly the world needs Superman. Don't worry, Bruce, I think he's going to show up just when you need him.  And the fight scene with Steppenwolf gives us the best look at the missile-catching villain yet. Somewhere underneath all of that motion-capture armor is Ciaran Hinds, best known for roles in Munich and Game of Thrones.

Justice League opens November 17th, directed by Zack Snyder with Joss Whedon either on mop-up duty or a full-scale reshoot. Depends on who you ask on what day, honestly. Hopefully a way was found to gel their very distinct styles into something that makes sense. Fingers crossed.

Three 'Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2' Clips Reveal New Footage

Yesterday we were treated to a new clip from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, featuring a pretty sweet moment shared between Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) and Gamora (Zoe Saldana). And with it came a warning that if you were really hyped for Marvel's already well-received sequel, then skipping these clips might be the wisest course of action. Well, that decision is here again because there are three more clips you can check out. Or not.

There's a lot of new stuff here, too. Not in the clip titled "Death Button", which we've already seen a lot of. It's the one with Baby Groot (Vin Diesel) refusing to understand Rocket's (Bradley Cooper) instruction to not hit the button that will kill everybody. The newest stuff is in the clip titled "Sovereign Fleet", in which Rocket causes the team to get attacked by a fleet of starships, and a clip in which Drax (Dave Bautista) dives headlong into the monstrous Abilisk we've been seeing in trailers.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 opens May 5th.

Early ‘Rogue One’ Reactions Look Promising… Plus 3 More Clips From The Film

A little while ago Disney purchased Lucasfilm and promised that not only would we get a new Star Wars trilogy, but we could even get Star Wars spin-off movies.  After the first release of The Force Awakens, we learned that the next Star Wars movie was going to be one of the spin-offs, and it was going to be called Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.  After endlessly speculating about what the heck Rogue One is, what would it be about, what timeline is it in, who the characters are, etc., we are now days away from the release of the film.  Yesterday in Los Angeles, some critics attended the world premiere of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.  We here at PDC will have a review in the upcoming days for you.  While there is an embargo until Tuesday for actual reviews of the movie, they couldn’t help but go to social media and talk about the film (in a non-spoiler way).

They are pretty much unanimous in their praise for the film.  The movie is already racking to make anywhere between $280 and $350 million its opening weekend globally.  Disney is trying hard to lower expectations for the film, but based on the praise it’s received from the world premiere, looks like we’re in for a treat!

Lucasfilm isn’t slowing down near the finish line either.  To get fans ready for this coming weekend’s opening, they have released 3 new clips for the upcoming Star Wars movie.

Two Clips From 'Rogue One: A Star Wars Story' Feature Familiar Faces, Blasters, And Jokes

On Friday night Disney invited a bunch of lucky bloggers and journalists to Skywalker Ranch (Nobody thought to ask me? Screw all ya'll!) to view 28 minutes of carefully selected footage from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. I have a few friends (Former friends now!) who attended and so far the praise has been universal, with the consensus being that it fits better into the Star Wars we're familiar with than some may think. While I'm hyped, I would also add that these sorts of previews ALWAYS lead to a bunch of cheerleading.

Disney and Lucasfilm continue to dole out more footage from the film, completely shedding any layer of secrecy. The first of two clips shows some of the witty banter between droid K-2SO (Alan Tudyk) and Cassian Andor (Diego Luna), while Andor and Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones) argue over the blaster she's not supposed to have. It just goes to show that she hasn't truly been accepted into the Rebel Alliance just yet. The second clip shows that alliance trying to plot their strategy against the Death Star, and features the return of Jimmy Smits as Bail Organa, who you may recall from the prequel movies.

Jason Momoa's Unimpressed In Clips From Ana Lily Amirpour's 'The Bad Batch'

It didn't take a lot of star power for Ana Lily Amirpour to break through with her stylish debut feature, A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night. When your film is described as the first ever Iranian vampire Western it's enough to attract a lot of attention. With its promise of romanticized cannibal action her follow-up The Bad Batch promises to be just as shocking, only now she's got the big names to go along with it and you can get a glimpse at some of them in these clips.

I don't know what the Hell is going on in these clips, but I do know that Jason Momoa look pretty unimpressed with the overly muscled freaks surrounding him. What is this? Some kind of cannibal weightlifting Meetup group? In the second clip, star Suki Waterhouse gets chased down by somebody in a wasteland that looks like something out of Mad Max. All I know is that "Fish Paste" track by Die Antwoord sets just the right tone for a movie that looks to have attitude to spare.

A girl walks across a cannibal-infested desert at midday…. Ana Lily Amirpour’s highly anticipated follow-up to A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night feints in the direction of sensationalistic horror — and, be forewarned, blood is spilled and limbs are hacked — but The Bad Batch, like Amirpour’s deliciously low-key debut, uses genre as a springboard for high style and social commentary.

The aforementioned girl (Suki Waterhouse) is one of thousands of Americans deemed unacceptable to civilized society. While wandering in her desert exile, she is captured by a community of cannibals. She manages to escape, soon ending up at a very different enclave of outcasts. Our heroine is safe here, but still does not quite feel that she has found her tribe.

On an excursion beyond the gates of her new shelter, she encounters one of her former cannibal captors (Jason Momoa), who ends up requiring her help. But can she do it without one of them getting slaughtered in the human-eat-human world where savagery is considered central to survival?

Amy Adams Makes First Contact In Two 'Arrival' Clips

The buzz for Denis Villeneuve's sci-fi drama Arrival has been swift and glowing since it debuted in Venice days ago.The film is based on Ted Chiang's novella, "Story of Your Life", and stars Amy Adams, Jeremy Renner, and Forest Whitaker in the story of humans' first contact with an alien race. How much deeper than that does it go? From what we've seen so far it isn't your typical invasion movie, and the first two clips back up that assertion, as well.

The footage is incredibly tense, showing Adams as linguistics expert Louise Banks as she and her team enter the alien space craft. Not only is the gravity a little bit wonky, but Louise dares to remove her protective suit. After that, she makes another bold decision by approaching a mysterious wall of mist...and what happens after that is best left unsaid.

Arrival hits theaters on November 11th.

'Jason Bourne' Is On The Hunt In Three New Clips And Images

Jason Bourne may have his memories back, but as agent Nicky Parsons (Julia Stiles) warns him in the many teasers, it doesn't mean he knows everything. But did he forget how to throw a punch, leap from tall buildings, and tear through city streets in a variety of stolen vehicles? Of course not, otherwise there wouldn't be much of a movie, and certainly no reason for Matt Damon and Paul Greengrass to reunite after so many years away.

Three new clips from the film have dropped and they show Bourne fighting cops in the middle of a protest, involved in a Las Vegas car chase, and getting mysterious phone calls from Treadstone agents. They've done a pretty terrible job of keeping the plot of this one under wraps (I'm convinced a certain important character dies early on), but we know it involves Bourne coming out of retirement after learning a tough truth about his father. Seems his recruitment into Treadstone may have been based on a lie, and Bourne will stop at nothing until he uncovers the whole story.

Also starring Alicia Vikander, Vincent Cassel, Tommy Lee Jones, Riz Ahmed, and Sam Shepard, Jason Bourne hits theaters on July 29th.

Ant-Man Meets Cap For The First Time In New 'Captain America: Civil War' Clips

This is basically Marvel Week over at Jimmy Kimmel Live, with some kind of exclusive dropping every day this week. While Benedict Cumberbatch will be on tonight to debut the Doctor Strange trailer, last night saw Chris Evans, Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, and Paul Rudd premiere two new clips from Captain America: Civil War.

What's cool about these clips isn't so much the footage from the film, but the ease that the Marvel cast seems to get a long. There's a cohesion and camaraderie within Marvel's gigantic franchise that you don't find anywhere else, except for Fast & Furious and Star Wars, the latter another Disney property. So maybe it's something that the Mouse House makes a point to foster?

The first clip features Ant-Man meeting Captain America for the first time, and as expected he's a bit of a mess while fawning over the star-spangled hero. The second clip gets right to the heart of the film's conflict as Cap and Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) argue the pros and cons of the government holding superheroes accountable for their actions. The funniest part of that one is Vision, looking like he just raided Paul Bettany's wardrobe closet.

Captain America: Civil War opens May 6th.

New Clips From Disney's 'The Jungle Book' Will Make You Laugh, Cry, And Be Afraid

I'm going to call it now; I think Disney's The Jungle Book will be this year's Life of Pi. Not in that it will win a bunch of Oscars, except for maybe on the technical side, but for appealing to our love of an emotional story about the bond between man and animal. That the special effects are comparatively breath-taking, and that it also features a central human performance from a newcomer among a sea of CGI portrayals is just another way these two movies tread similar ground.

Disney has released some new clips from the Jon Favreau-directed adaptation of Rudyard Kipling's book, and they run the full gamut of emotions of here. The first centers on a tearful farewell between Mowgli (newcomer Neel Sethi) and the wolves Raksha (Lupita Nyong'o) and Akela (Giancarlo Esposito) into the care of panther Baheera (Ben Kingsley) in order to take him back to civilization. The reason is the continued threats by the villainous tiger Shere Khan (Idris Elba), seen in another clip. And finally a light-hearted scene features Bill Murray as the voice Baloo the bear as he prepares for a hibernation he doesn't actually need.

The Jungle Book hits theaters on April 15th.

Six Clips From 'Batman v Superman', Zack Snyder Talks R-Rated Cut

With only a week to go until Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice plants its costumed boot on the movie industry, a lot of footage from the film has already been seen. Or has it? Although it clocks in at a robust 2 hours and 22 minutes (minus credits), there's more that Snyder is leaving for the recently confirmed R-rated extended Blu-Ray cut. While some instantly pegged the rating as being a response to the success of Deadpool, Zack Snyder's wife and producing partner Deborah tells THR that's ridiculous....

"Online, everyone's like, "Oh, they're doing an R-rated in reaction to Deadpool," and you're like, "We didn't just shoot it last week, and we also didn't edit it last week."

Zack chimed in, saying the home release "is a half-hour longer, and some of that additional material is some of the stuff we took out for the rating. I was like, 'Cool, I can put it back in for the director's cut.' There was nothing by design. This was the material I just put back in, and then when [the MPAA] looked at it again, they were like, 'Oh, now the movie's rated R.' And, by the way, it's not a hard R. There's no nudity. There's a little bit of violence. It just tips the scale."

One of those scenes being put back in has to do with Jena Malone's mysterious character, which Snyder has promised isn't Robin.  We'll see about that. As for criticism the film may be too dark and serious, Snyder has a response to that which makes a lot of sense...

 "I would go back to 'The Dark Knight' argument and say, 'Is that a bad thing? What does that mean?' By the way, the most serious movies I’ve made in the past always have irony in them. I just gave it the weight that it deserves as far as the mythological conformation. But it’s still a guy in a red and blue suit fighting a guy in a black suit. I mean, they’re in costumes. The movie is fun, and Batman fights Superman. If you can’t have fun there, then something’s kind of wrong with you."

He's right in the sense that these are still colorful superheroes with heat ray beams and utility belts, so that should be inherently fun to those willing to have fun with it. The "serious" complaint was heard often in regard to Man of Steel, and other than the overlong and repetitive finale I enjoyed myself greatly, which isn't easy for me to say since I think Superman is pretty much the most boring character ever.

New Trailer And Clips For 'Triple 9' Starring Casey Affleck, Kate Winslet, Chiwetel Ejiofor, And More

Need a reason why John Hillcoat's Triple 9 is one of the most anticipated movies of 2016? Well here's ten of them:  Casey Affleck, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Kate Winslet, Clifton Collins Jr., Gal Gadot, Woody Harrelson, Anthony Mackie, Teresa Palmer, Aaron Paul and Norman Reedus. That the cop thriller actually looks pretty darn good (despite some middling early reviews) is just one more reason to be excited.

Affleck takes the lead on this one, playing a rookie cop who becomes a target of crooked cops looking to pull of an impossible heist. To do it, they'll need to distract the police force with a "triple 9", code for an officer down.

New 'Mission: Impossible-Rogue Nation' Clips and Posters showcase Tom Cruise's crazy Stunts

Usually when an actor starts to get up there in age they scale back the crazy stuntwork, leaving that stuff up to the trained professionals. Not so for Tom Cruise, who has taken on increasingly crazy risks for the Mission: Impossible franchise, and 'Rogue Nation' looks to be the craziest yet. A series of very cool, minimalist posters showcase the biggest stunts from each of the movies so you can see how far the stakes have raised. Plus, two more clips put Cruise right in the middle of the action alongside co-stars Simon Pegg and Rebecca Ferguson. Here's the film's official synopsis:

 Ethan Hunt and team take on their most impossible mission yet, eradicating the Syndicate – an International rogue organization as highly skilled as they are, committed to destroying the IMF.

Get More Anna Paquin with Two Clips from 'X-Men: Days of Future Past' the "Rogue Cut"

With the "Rogue Cut" of X-Men: Days of Future Past set to debut at San Diego Comic-Con next week before hitting store shelves, 20th Century Fox continues to spoil everything that makes this version unique. Today brings a couple more clips, one featuring Anna Paquin's Rogue and another in which everybody just talks about Rogue.

The first scene has Rogue, Iceman, and Magneto trying not to get vaporized by the mutant-hunting Sentinels. In the next, Iceman informs Xavier that he knows someone who can use Kitty Pryde's powers to help save Wolverine. Wonder who he's talking about?

X-Men: Days of Future Past "Rogue Cut" goes on sale July 14th.
