I'm actually surprised this hasn't happened already. According to
Variety, Disney has greenlit a sequel to it's 2007 hit, Enchanted
. The live-action fairy tale/romantic comedy starred Amy Adams as a storybook princess transported into the real world, where she meets her Prince Charming in the form of Patrick Dempsey. The film was a monster hit, grossing over $340M worldwide, and helped put Adams on the map.
Anne Fletcher is set to direct. Fletcher has been on fire lately, helming
Step Up
,
27 Dresses
, and this year's hit rom-com,
The Proposal
. While no official announcement has been made, it's expected that the complete cast from the previous film will return for the sequel.
I won't lie, I enjoyed Enchanted a lot more than expected, mainly due to the infectious charm of Amy Adams. I could do without Patrick Dempsey, of course, but James Marsden was effective at the somewhat scorned storybook prince.
