Variety is reporting that Vin Diesel and Paul Walker are set to rev up their engines for a fifth installment of the Fast & the Furious saga, signing on to the film expected to release sometime in 2011. Director Justin Lin will be tagging along as well. Universal Pictures was quick to snap up the trio after last year's Fast & Furious led the pack as the studio's top grosser of the year, bringing in over $350M globally. The film is under the working title of "Fast Five". That's terrible. That can't possibly stick.
No plot details are available yet, but I'm sure it has something to do with underground racing communities entangled in some sort of illegal drug/merchandise trade.
Fast & Furious was a decent addition to the series last year, but I've long since grown sick of seeing the same story over and over again, just with different cars for the stars to ride around in. Now if they were to revisit the land of the rising sun, like in my favorite film of the bunch, Tokyo Drift, then it might pique my interest.
