Ok, seriously. Other than John Nolan who was begging for a sequel to SWAT? In case you forgot, and I'm betting you did, SWAT was the 2003 action film starring a virtual who's who of action oriented folks: Colin Farrell, Samuel L. Jackson, Michelle Rodriguez, The Goat...excuse me, LL Cool J. It basically was the story of a SWAT team tasked with bringing down an international drug cartel. To tell the truth, it wasn't a bad film, directed by Clark Johnson(Homicide: Life on the Street, The Wire). It's just an easily forgettable one, who's time for a sequel passed about five years ago.
Apparently raking in a cool $200M worldwide is more than enough reason to beat a dead horse, as Universal has tapped Benny Boom to helm a sequel. Boom's last film, Next Day Air, was a dark ultra violent buddy comedy that I equated to a a poor man's Pineapple Express. Actually, I liked it better than Pineapple Express.
No word yet on casting, although the plot is said to follow a Lt. Paul Cutler, recent transferee to the Detroit SWAT division. Since that character was not in the previous film, I'm doubting we're gonna see any of the original cast back.
