James Cameron is wasting no time in getting his record breaking science fiction epic out on store shelves. Fox has confirmed that the environmentally conscious Avatar will be released on April 22nd, which just so happens to be Earth Day. Makes sense.
This will be the bare bones version of the film. The theatrical cut only. No bells and whistles to speak of. No special features, no enhanced menu screens, nothing. If you can wait long enough, in November a special edition, multi-disc package will be released, but details on that one are few, but expected to be detailed within the next week.
I've never been a big fan of special features on DVD sets. I know, you'd think with the film addict I am that I'd be drooling over watching how my favorite films get made, but I'm not. I can count the number of special features I've watched on all my hundreds of DVDs on one hand. So it might be worth it to me to simply buy the stand alone, single disc version. Then again, if the special edition features the extended cut, then I'm gonna have to wait. One thing I can't stand is watching the theatrical cut of a film when I know the director's full vision is out there somewhere.
