Live-Action BLEACH Headed to the Big Screen?
I'm no anime expert, but it seems like Hollywood is having a hell of a time getting any anime/manga properties to the big screen. Warner Brothers is looking to change that, and are now in the process of acquring the film rights to Bleach, the popular series about a boy who gains the power of a Soul Reaper and begins defending humans from evil spirits.
Peter Segal is in line to produce, and likely will direct the project. That in and of itself should stomp a mudhole in the hopes of anybody who thinks this might turn out well. I have no experience with Bleach at all, but Segal's filmography is appallingly bad. Not only did he direct the only laugh-free Naked Gun film(Naked Gun 33 1/3), but The Nutty Professor 2: The Klumps, Anger Management, 50 First Dates, and The Longest Yard all count as pockmarks on his resume. I didn't mind Get Smart too much, but that had more to do with Steve Carell's comedic timing than anything else.
