Early this month we heard that director Paul Weitz was inviting the cast of Little Fockers back for some reshoots. Not a big deal, except for the rumor that Dustin Hoffman, who had been written out of the threequel, was being asked back to help punch up the humor. After watching the trailers, it needs more than some punching up. It needs a full Menace II Society-style comedy beatdown.

Deadline has confirmed that Hoffman is in fact back, and he'll be shooting for critical scenes. For such limited involvement Universal still has to pay him as if he were a full cast member right from the beginning. With that kind of financial commitment it's obvious that somebody upstairs was not liking what they were seeing.
