Who'll be opposite Tom Cruise in Mission: Impossible 4?

For awhile there it looked like Mission: Impossible 4 might not happen. Or at least be drastically reduced, or even rebooted, especially in the wake of Tom Cruise's disastrous last film, Knight and Day. But all that is in the past now, and Paramount has begun screen testing other actors to play opposite Cruise's Ethan Hunt.

The Wrap is reporting that three contenders are already in place: Kevin Zegers(Transamerica); Christopher Egan(Resident Evil: Extinction); and Anthony Mackie(The Hurt Locker) are due for testing within the next week. For what role exactly remains unclear.

The most well-known name of these three is Mackie, who has made a star turn of late with The Hurt Locker but also in supporting roles in films like Half Nelson and Notorious. Zegers played Felicity Huffman's son in the well-received Transamerica a few years ago, but I honestly haven't seen him since.

Brad Bird(The Incredibles) is on hand to direct, with a release date of December 16th, 2011 already set in stone.
