I've taken some flack for not being the most enthusiastic supporter of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo or the sequel, The Girl Who Played with Fire. My chief complaint is the same for both films: The only thing worth paying any attention to is Lisbeth Salander, the enigmatic computer hacker played perfectly by Noomi Rapace. It's hard to see it behind all the piercings, make-up, and wardrobe that looks like it came from Marilyn Manson's private collection, but Rapace is a stunning woman. I was hoping that she would start getting some work on a more mainstream level, and it appears that's starting to happen.
Rapace has been cast to play the female lead in Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes 2. She'll be starring alongside the returning Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law. Her role is still up in the air, but she will be either the lead love interest or the lead villain. Maybe both. I'm betting she's a woman who Holmes falls for that ends up screwing him over.
Sherlock Holmes 2 has been slated for a December 6th, 2011 release date. And now I have a reason to start paying attention to it.
