* Those who haven't seen Oren Moverman's great film from last year, The Messenger, might want to add it to the top of their Netflix queue. Like right now. The director is quickly adding some big names to his highly anticipated follow-up, Rampart, about the LAPD Rampart scandal of the 1990s. So far we've already got Ben Foster and Woody Harrelson(both from The Messenger), not to mention Ice Cube. That's not even close to all, as Sigourney Weaver, Anne Heche, Cynthia Nixon, Steve Buscemi, and Robin Wright are also said to be involved. If that cast doesn't get you amped up then I don't know what else will.
* Gary Ross(Seabiscuit) has signed on to direct The Hunger Games, based on the series of novels by Suzanne Collins. The highly sought after gig will see the usually family friendly director helming the story of a futuristic, dystopian America where young people are selected to compete in a brutal competition against eachother. Consider it a combination of Battle Royale and The Condemned. Seems like an odd fit for Ross, but the plot alone has me intrigued. Keeping an eye on this one.
* Maybe Anchor Bay sees something the rest of us don't? Maybe they think because Prince of Persia just recently broke the record as the highest grossing video game adaptation ever, they believe it's a wise idea to give Tekken a wide release? That's right. Tekken. The second-string fighting game is getting a wide release some time in 2011. Maybe they missed just how badly Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li got pummeled at the box office? Maybe they missed just how bad Chris Klein was in it? Then again maybe it'll be as fun as Dead or Alive was, and then I'll be forced to shut up.
