Trailer Time: True Grit, directed by the Coen Brothers

I've been waiting anxiously for this, our first real look at the Coen Brothers adaptation of True Grit. Starring Jeff Bridges as Rooster Cogburn, the iconic marshall made famous by John Wayne in the 1969 film, the Coens promised that their version would be more faithful to the original 1968 Charlie Portis novel. Judging by the trailer, I think they've nailed it. The book departs from the 1969 film in that the story is seen mostly through the eyes of Mattie Ross(played now by Hailee Steinfeld). Cogburn became such a popular character afterwards that he was famously spunoff into a...let's just say less than satisfying sequel.

Last night while at a screening for Ryan Reynolds' upcoming flick Buried, I mentioned that I wasn't sure if anything else coming out this year could possibly crack my Top 10. Somebody in the row in front of me mentioned True Grit and I dismissed the very notion. Sometimes I think I need to have my head examined. Doubting the Coens? Never a good idea.

True Grit strars Jeff Bridges, Hailee Steinfeld, Matt Damon, Josh Brolin, and Barry Pepper. It's due out in theaters on Christmas Day.  Check out the trailer and let us know what you think!
