The Jaden James/Jackie Chan starring remakes have gone a long way in repositioning The Karate Kid for a brand new audience not familiar with the 1984 favorite. But for those of us who do remember, the first film in the series was meaner, more competition heavy, and a little more poignant thanks mostly to Pat Morita's Oscar nominated performance.
